Foreign Investments: President Jonathan Leads High Powered Delegation To China

President-goodluck-jonathanPresident Goodluck Jonathan will on Monday lead a high powered team for talks on increased direct investment in the Nigerian economy with leaders and captains of industry in China.

A statement by the Presidential spokesman, Dr Reuben Abati in Abuja on Wednesday states that the delegation will include Governors, National Assembly members, Ministers and representatives of the private sector.

The statement said the President will leave Abuja on Monday evening for the five-day state visit.

It added that the President is scheduled to hold separate meetings with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Mr Zhang Dejiang.

“Talks between President Jonathan and the Chinese leaders will focus on greater bilateral cooperation in the development of public infrastructure, oil and gas, power supply, agriculture, communications and tourism.

“It is expected that before the conclusion of the visit on Friday, July 12, new bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding will be concluded and signed,’’ it stressed.

The statement said the President will be accompanied by Governors Theodore Orji  (Abia), Peter Obi (Anambra), Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe) and Isa Yuguda (Bauchi).

Also in the team are Sen. Paulinus Nwagu, Hon. Tahir Monguno and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Petroleum, Works and Agriculture.

The Ministers of Works, Aviation, Solid Minerals, Transport, National Planning, Trade & Investment, Niger Delta, Justice, Culture & Tourism as well as the Minister of State for Defence, are also in the delegation.

During his visit, the President will inaugurate the new Nigerian Embassy building, lay the foundation stone for the residence of Nigeria’s Ambassador to China as well as hold a meeting with members of the Nigerian community in China.
