The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) yesterday stated that five underage girls have been forcefully abducted and made to denounce Christianity in some states in the north.
Newly appointed Secretary of the Northern CAN, Professor Daniel Babayi, who made this known in Kaduna, said “the situation where Christian girls below the age of 18 are forcefully abducted and made to denounce their faith in the north has gone worst.
“We have three cases from Kaduna State where three Christian little girls have been abducted and made to renounce their faith.
“Right now, there are five cases we are treating; they have been kept in the houses of Emirs or Imams. When we report to the police, they tell you there is nothing they can do. The Police have become very helpless. In some instances, they are part of the conspiracy,” he alleged.
Professor Babayi, who also frowned on the attack on CAN President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor by the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), added that “the reaction of the NSCIA is very unfortunate and full of hatred for the person of the CAN President. We see it as an attempt to ridicule the entire Christian community.”
According to him, the “Christian community will not accept anybody calling our CAN president names; it is not right for the non Christian leaders to be insulting our leaders.”
“Whether they like him or not, he is a Christian leader. They should respect him because we have chosen him to be our leader. We as Christians cannot begrudge the Sultan who is a Muslims leader. The Muslim should not be seen insulting our leaders” he stressed.
I do not believe muslims and christians can live well along,there is hatred expecialy from the muslems,
We actually don’t expect any good statement about Islam from Christians, because Nigerian christians are culturally & ethnically frustrated people who use religion as their only way to seek international acceptance and solidarity.
