Uncertainty As Gunshots, Teargas Reported Around Rivers Government House

The political upheaval in Rivers State has heightened today with reports of sporadic gun shots and teargas canisters being fired around the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The reports indicate that the shots were either fired by thugs or police officers.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, sporadic gunshots were heard on Aggrey Road, about eight kilometres from the Government House; with the shots said to be fired by elements suspected to be loyal to a state lawmaker, who is sympathetic to the cause of Minister of State for Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike.

The report also said teargas canisters were fired by police around the Government House to disperse youths believed to be supporters of Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Similarly, other sources said gunshots were fired by the police.

  1. the president should be held responsible for anything that is going on in rivers state today, i see no reason why Mr president would choose to keep mute in the political situation in river state. he should be reminded by his aides that his wife cannot be allowed to have a constitutional role in river state politics.
