The AFN media officer, Kayode Thomas, said the federation has laid out plans, so as to ensure Team Nigeria athletes do not lack moral and financial supports, even as a combined camp has not been organised.

“We have drawn up training plans, and in terms of support, we are doing so morally and financially.

“Yes, the athletes are individually training on their own, but we are also monitoring their training,” Thomas said.

The media officer further explained that it was not necessary to camp all of the athletes, since they’ve majorly entered for individual events.

“The kind of training we have in football is not the kind we have in athletics.

“Someone who is into high jump does not need to train with others, once he or she has a good coach.”

The home-based contingent of Team Nigeria athletes flew out of the country yesterday for the championships slated for August 10 to 18 in Russia’s capital city.
