As the annual convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, ends with the General Overseer, Pastor E.A. Adeboye announcing that the church would build a three kilometre long auditorium in Nigeria, Nigerians have reacted in the same manner they reacted to the purchase of private jets by some pastors, calling the proposed project a waste and another confirmation that Nigerian churches are veering off the teachings of Jesus Christ.
In his reaction, a man identified as Godson said, Nigerians are hungry and unemployment rate is sky-high but churches are wasting their resources on buildings and other investments rather than tackling poverty.
“Why not use that money to build a non-profit organisation and employ our youths?” Godson queried.
“If they like, they should convert the whole of Oyo State and Ogun State to church there’s still nothing to show for it . No light. Even the General Overseer has more bodyguards than government officials and moves about in Helicopter / Private jet,” another Naubiko said.
Ade on his part likened Nigerian pastors to armed robbers.
“They (Nigerian pastors) are worst than armed robbers. They are con artists who are not afraid of God’s punishment. Some of Nollywood actors and actresses have also dumped acting and joined these con artists because, it is more lucrative than acting or 419 business. ”
Olawale however had a different view. He wondered why people take pleasure in criticizing men of God.
“The new auditorium affects nobody. If you’ve been there during their convention, you will see how many people sit outside because the current auditorium can no longer contain them.
“People who say they could have repaired the Lagos-Ibadan expressway which leads to the camp ground probably don’t know how government works. Have you not heard about governments being angry because an organisation took up a project the government should have undertaken? We shouldn’t just jude without considering all sides to a matter,” Olawale said.
Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, announced during the Holy Ghost Service at the Redemption Camp in Mowe area of Ogun State, that the existing auditorium which was built in 2000 with a capacity to sit one million people at once could no longer accommodate millions of people who attend service there.
Adeboye said that the new auditorium which would be built at the mission’s camp ground at km 46, Lagos-Ibadan expressway would also be three kilometres long as wide. This will make the 9km square auditorium one of the top ten churches in the world in
area size.
It surprises me a lot anytime I hear people reacts senselessly to the things of God. I mean, what is wrong in building a befitting worship auditorium for God? Can some people just hold on for a second and reconsider how they slam God’s anointed? What size is the St. Peter’s Square in Vatican city? Oh! They’ll say it’s built in Europe or it’s belongs to the Roman Catholic! Oh! How senseless our reasoning is! We often time accuse our religious leaders of being responsible for the high rate of unemployment arguably deep rooted in the nation by the incompetent government we have. Let’s stop this BLASPHEMY! I’m not sure u do watch TV at all. Did you see the fleet of bodyguards which accompanied the Pope during his recent visit to Brazil? Please tell me the name of commercial airline the Pope traveled on his trip to Brazil. Point of correction mate, I’m in no way attacking the Pope neither Roman Catholic. Building a befiting place of worship for God is not in any way a waste of public fund, but in the contrary ,its making enough room that will accomodate more Nigerians who are spiritually and morally hungry and poor. I think Nigerians should learn to respect men of God. Instead of insulting and abusing them.

Talking abt 3km long auditorium for RCCG, I think those criticisms and arguments are needless! My reasons are hinged in the ffing facts:
(1) The current 1million capacity auditorium could accommodate all the camp visitors few yrs back.
(2) Within the few yrs, the followership of Jesus Christ thru the activities of the Mission has grown to the extent that the auditorium is now grossly insufficient in accommodating them!
(3) How did they achieve this? The man being used by God here must have been (I)purposeful, (ii)visionary, (iii)focused, (iv)disciplined, (v)prayerful, (vi)a big thinker, (vii)God-obsessed, to mention but a few.
Fellow commentators, we need to ask ourselves if we have any of the values in fact number 3. If we do, how much of it is of benefit to fellow human beings? If you decide to hold a program, how many millions of people will show up bcos they feel there’s something in you that’ll be of benefit to them?
I think huge number of people troupe to that camp bcos Pastor E A Adeboye has made himself of importance to millions. Can you put a figure on the number of people who rely on your existence to better their lots?
The propose auditorium should get every one thinking if so much can be accomplished bcos of one man, isn’t there something in me that am limiting as a result of my attitude and myopic views?
