Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of France midfielder Etienne Capoue from Ligue 1 side Toulouse.
Capoue, who made 174 appearances for Toulouse, scoring 13 goals, has joined Spurs for a fee believed to be in the region of £9m.
The 25-year-old was named in the French League’s Team of the Year in 2012 and is expected to ease the defense burden on Andre Villas-Boas’ side after Steven Caulker joined Cardiff and, with Jan Verntonghen and Younes Kaboul both recovering from injury.
He becomes the fourth player to arrive at White Hart Lane this summer, following the signings of Brazilian midfielder Paulinho from Corinthians, Nacer Chadli from FC Twente and Spain’s Roberto Soldado from Valencia.
Capoue can also play as a central defender.
