Lugano, who played on loan at Spanish side Malaga last season, has signed a two year contract with the Baggies.

“I am very pleased to join West Bromwich Albion for the next two years,” the Uruguay national team captain wrote on Twitter.

“I am doing something that has been missing in my career, playing in the Premier League, without doubt the most beautiful and competitive league in the world.

“The challenge is to match what West Bromwich achieved last season and trying to go a step further to reach European competitions,” added Lugano.

Lugano began his career with Nacional in his homeland before joining Sao Paulo in Brazil. He moved to Europe in 2006 to join Turkish side Fenerbahce, before moving to France to play for PSG.

A statement on the Paris club website read: “Paris St-Germain thanks Lugano for the professionalism he has shown throughout his contract and wishes him well in the English league.”

He has featured 85 times for Uruguay and scored 9 goals including his first-half strike for la Celeste against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the FIFA Confederations Cup. He has captained Uruguay 75 times.
