Attack On Zamfara Acting Governor: Police Begins Investigation

policeThe Police Command in Zamfara says it has started investigation into the attack on the motorcade of the acting Governor of the state, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji, on Saturday.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Lawal Abdullahi, while speaking with newsmen in Birnin-Magaji on Sunday described the attack as “unfortunate”.

He said that the police would not fold its arms and allow such unbecoming behaviours by the youths adding that troops of mobile and regular police had been deployed to maintain peace in the area.

He assured that anyone found involved in the attack would face “the full wrath of the law”.

Youths in their hundreds on Saturday, attacked Rikiji’s motorcade in Birnin-magajiin, headquarters of Birnin-magaji Local Government Area of the state.  Reports said angry youths took the decision in response to what they described as the “poor security provision in the state”, among other grievances.

Rikiji, who is also the speaker of the State House of Assembly, was in the area to condole the families of three Fulani youths allegedly killed on Thursday by youths of Tudun-Kuya village in the local government.

The killers of the three deceased were said to have suspected them of being members of “the Fulani killer gangs” said to be terrorizing villages in different parts of the state. The youths used stones and sticks on their visitors and it took the combined efforts of the police escort, the military and SSS, who shot into the air to disperse the mob. (NAN)
