OPINION: ASUU Strike, A Proactive Fight

The goal of holding wrongdoers accountable now risks being subsumed by sobriquets of all ridicules! Numerous cartoons and even a music video ridiculing ASUU demands have emerged. This is a showy hypocrisy that is orchestrating a show for us to justify the jumbo pay that our law makers and other office holders are earning.

All the efforts by concerned Nigerians in the past to delve into the details of the jumbo pay has routinely refused publication.

The last time I checked the guinness book of record, some Nigerian politicians were said to be richer than Dangote should EFCC delve deep into their account. So why are some people encouraging the lecturers vilification? Teachers are not born to suffer. What is good for geese is good for ganders.

ASUU being the apex body of Teachers’ union has just started the good fight to end this paltry sum paid to teachers. Enough is enough. Gone are the days that the government used to woo ASUU to go back to the classroom saying that something is in the offing, only for ASUU to comply without nothing being done. Enough of whet ting of this appetite.

Teachers contemporaries in other sectors are handsomely rewarded. Enough is enough.

If the government cannot finance the education sector they should cut cost. We have two houses in the NASS. One can be dissolved. Enough of this teachers reward is in heaven attitude. After all it is not written in the Bible.

Those of us that opted for teachers education are tired of playing second fiddle in the society. Teaching is the mother of all professions and should be treated as such. Stop calling ASUU names. The strike was orchestrated for purely bettering our higher institution
purposes. The situation of Nigerian public schools is so dire that we are no longer recognised outside Nigerian shore. ASUU should be commended for being proactive in joining forces with the government. The Nigerian situation is that only coercion that can make government comply. NANS should join lecturers to fight for this. Parents should not be left out.
