tukur pdpThe National Publicity Secretary, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, says the  Abubakar Baraje-led faction has no right to call for the resignation of the National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.

Metuh said this when he briefed newsmen while reacting to a call made by the faction in Abuja on Monday

The faction had called for the resignation of Tukur, arguing that he was expelled from the party in 2007 and had not been called back.

The PDP spokesman said that the group had no “institutional memories” to call for Tukur`s resignation.

He said that the Alex Ekwueme’s reconciliation committee set up in 2007 by the party`s leadership gave Tukur and other expelled members a ‘blanket amnesty’ and waiver to return to the party.

“The Ekweme’s report gave a blanket amnesty to them, brought them back and restored them to their original positions,” Metuh said.

He said that the PDP faction did not have the institutional memory to remember the party`s history.

“We have looked at our aggrieved brothers, except Jigawa Governor, we do not think of any other person that has institutional memory to remember things that happened in the party since its inception.

“There is nobody there that has ever been in the party administration,” Metuh said.

He said before Baraje came to the party, he had not associated with party administration.

“There is no need to be throwing banters at people who do not have institutional memories and people who never participated in any decision making process of the party.

“The national chairman of the party is a foundation member of this party and he is one of the founding fathers of the party,” he said.

According to him, for Tukur to campaign and win at the national convention without opposition, make the call for his resignation by the faction immaterial.

Metuh called on the Baraje-led faction to come out and explain to Nigerians why they were opposed to Tukur’s leadership of the party.

“They should tell us why they are completely opposed to Tukur being the chairman of the PDP.

“They can continue pushing. Tukur is in charge of the party and we are happy with him,” Metuh said. (NAN)
