sentence

A security guard, Anthony Ogacha, was Friday sentenced to three months imprisonment by an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court sitting in Zone 2 Wuse, for stealing a cleric’s money.

Ogacha, who pleaded guilty to stealing N721,340 from Rev. Fr. Aloy Udo of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Lugbe, Abuja, was sentenced by Senior Magistrate Aminu Eri, who did not give the accused an option of fine.

Ogacha was also ordered to pay back the money.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Paul Anigbo, told the court that Ogacha stole the money when he was on duty on 21 October at the clergyman’s residence in Federal Housing Authority Estate, Lugbe.

He said that during police investigation into the theft, Ogacha said that he gave the money to a man he simply identified as David, who is now at large, to double it for him.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 289 of the Penal Code.
