A former Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Ahmadu Ibrahim Coomassie, has alleged that the planned National Conference proposed by President Goodluck Jonathan is a ploy to destroy the North and the Hausa/Fulani, just as he urged northerners to make adequate preparations for it.

The former police chief, who was speaking at a meeting on the national conference organized for Katsina citizens by the Katsina group yesterday, recalled that a similar conference was held during the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo but with a prepared agenda against the North.

“A similar conference was held during the Obasanjo regime and I was among the people that represented Katsina State. I was the vice chairman of power sharing committee with late Mike Akhigbe as chairman of the committee. The conference was set to discuss among other issues power sharing, resource control and the third term agenda,” he said.

Coomassie recalled that northern representatives at the conference were called all sorts of bad names when they opposed the stand of southern representatives on the issue of resource control.

He added that although the report was submitted to the National Assembly, it was never implemented because it did not meet the agenda of those who planned it in the first place.

“The national conference that is being proposed will not be different and therefore the north should prepare for it very well, we should participate in it but we must prepare well and not abandon it. But for a National Sovereign Conference, we should think twice,” Coomassie said.
