APC Raises Alarm On Plan By Six-Anti Amaechi Lawmakers To Impeach Governor At Rivers PDP Secretariat

Ameachi-RiversThe Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned the six anti-Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi lawmakers to desist from their plot to hold plenary at the State Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with the aim of impeaching Governor Amaechi.

The APC alleged that the lawmakers whose initial plan to execute the impeachment of Mr. Amaechi failed last week following the sealing off the State House of Assembly complex by the police, raised the alarm that the lawmakers have adopted a plan B – using the State PDP Secretariat to remove the governor on December 17, 2013 (today) and announce the member representing Ogu/Bolo Constituency, Evans Bipi as acting governor.

Explaining that the party will not tolerate the holding of a session by six out of the 32 lawmakers at the state PDP Secretariat, the APC called on the Nigeria Police to close the ruling party’s secretariat to prevent the plan from materializing.

The opposition party, which has now turned the ruling party following Amaechi’s defection to APC, pointed out that the plot was to the governor and use the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to arrest him based on trumped-up charges.

In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant, Media and Public Affairs to the State Chairman of the APC, Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, the party warned that such plan would be null and void, adding that no party secretariat had ever hosted lawmakers’ plenary to impeach a state governor.

The party said, “The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress wishes to warn the six rebel lawmakers in the state not to go ahead with their plan to hold an illegal sitting at the State Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party for the purpose of impeaching Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

“The resort to sitting at the PDP Secretariat, we understand, is occasioned by the failure of the rebel lawmakers to gain access to the State House of Assembly, to which the police have also denied the majority 28 lawmakers access.

“We have never seen where lawmakers sit in a party secretariat to carry out any business of the House and we wish to say in advance that such an action will be null and void and of no consequence whatsoever.

“We hereby warn Evans Bipi and his co-conspirators to exercise restraint because there is a limit to rebellion. We also wish to call on the police to promptly seal off the Rivers State PDP Secretariat to prevent it from being used to perpetrate this illegality”, Eze stressed.
