Minor, Two Others Remanded For Alleged Kidnapping In Osogbo

court_logo_2An Osogbo Magistrate’s Court in Osun on Thursday remanded three persons in Ilesa Prison for allegedly kidnapping a secondary school student, Saidi Azeez.

The suspects are Kudus Bashiru, 21; Kamarudeen Lateef, 18; and a minor.

The Magistrate, Olusola Aluko, who gave the order, said the accused should be remanded in Ilesa Prison until formal application for bail was filed by Taiwo Awokunle, their counsel.

The police prosecutor, Joshua Oladoye, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on December 11 at the Baptist High School, Ede in Osun.

Mr. Oladoye said the accused conspired with others still at large, to kidnap Azeez, a class three senior secondary school student of the high school, before they were nabbed by the police.

“The accused kidnapped the victim and unlawfully assaulted him before forcefully entering into the school, and causing pandemonium,” Mr. Oladoye said.

He said the offences contravened section 516(A), 364 (2), 351, and 249(d) of the Criminal Code Cap 34, vol.11 Laws of Osun, 2003, but the accused pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge.

The plea of the accused was overruled by the Magistrate, who ordered the defence counsel to file a formal application for his clients bail on the adjourned date of Jan. 6, 2014.
