Wife of the Osun state Governor, Alhaja Sherifat Aregbesola, has condemned the belief in some quarters that her husband, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, is a religious fanatic, insisting that Aregbesola loves and cherishes all religions equally, stressing that those behind the insinuation are enemies of the present administration in the state.
Alhaja Aregbesola said this while speaking with journalists in her office to mark this year’s Christmas celebration, noting that her husband of over three decades believes in peace and treats all people equally, regardless of their religious beliefs.
According to her, Governor Aregbesola, though a committed Muslim, believes in God and allows all his people – including family members – to practice the religion that suits them.
She described Governor Aregbesola as a simple and nice person with a large heart, while stating that the governor believes in himself and gives everyone that comes his way the opportunity to develop.
She noted that Aregbesola was the first government official to build a church in Lagos state when he was serving as the Lagos state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, adding that the belief of Aregbesola in other religions gave him the opportunity to serve well in all the positions he held.
A no-nonsense governor, Aregbesola has been criticised over the way he governs the state, with some accusing him of high-handedness and attempt to Islamise Osun State, allegations he had always denied.
His policies may not go down well with many indigenes of the state, but he maintains his belief that he is doing what is best for the state.
