policeMany people were feared dead in a clash yesterday between Fulani herdsmen and Gbagyi farmers in Jere town of Kagarko Local Government area of Kaduna state over land dispute even as the traditional ruler of Jere and husband of a serving senator, Dr. Sa’ad Usman, was seriously injured in the clash.

Dr. Usman, who is a former Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, is husband to former Minister of Finance in the Olusegun Obasanjo administration and Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Mrs. Nenadi Usman.

Although the number of casualties was not made available to journalists, the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Mr.Olufemi Adenaike confirmed to newsmen last night that there was pandemonium in the area but his men were on top of the situation.

Dr. Usman, a second class traditional ruler, was reportedly attacked went he to mediate over the dispute in his domain, while some of his palace guards also sustained injuries in their bid to shield him from the rampaging fighters.

He was rushed to an undisclosed hospital under heavy security where he is currently receiving medical attention.

“Doctors are battling to save the emir’s life in an intensive care unit of the hospital” a source said.

Meanwhile, the police have denied rumours that the traditional ruler was beheaded by the rampaging groups and the entire town set on fire during the crisis.
