Tuesday’s attack on the convoy of Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State by Fulani herdsmen has been described by the Middle Belt Forum as an affront on the people and attempts to destabilise the region.

The Plateau State coordinator of the Forum, Mr. Manasseh Watyil, said in an interview in Jos on Wednesday that Suswam’s dogged determination to defend the people of the region had earned him opprobrium from those he said did not wish the region well.

Watyil said the Middle Belt viewed the attack on the Benue State governor as a calculated attempt to destabilise the entire MB nation.

“Governor Suswam is becoming too vocal, fighting the cause of the middle belt. Our elders need to join hands with Governor Suswan to really actualise the dreams of our fore fathers. We must bury our ethnic and other differences to proceed with the struggle of our forefathers in the likes of Joseph Tarka, J. D. Gomwalk, Patrick Dokotry, Pastor David Lot and a host of others”, said the coordinator.

The Forum called on President Goodluck Jonathan to rise to the occasion and protect the people of the region.

He added, “Jonathan should know that he cannot do without the Middle Belt for him to get to where he is going, he must protect us”.
