Champions League Draw: United Dares Bayern Again

Premier League champions Manchester United hosts last season’s treble winners, Bayern Munich, in the quarter-finals of the European Champions League.

It will be a repeat of the 1999 finals in Barcelona when two late United goals clinched the trophy for the then Sir Alex Ferguson wards, after the Runaway Bundesliga champions had led all through a large part of the tie.

“It’s an exciting tie. Bayern are a fantastic side, but we have to take heart from our performance the other night against Olympiabos,” United secretary John Alexander on facing Bayern.

“Our staff are very thorough and will have done their homework and will be prepared for Bayern. If we can keep them quiet in the first leg and get an advantage then we’re more than capable of stealing an away goal.”

La Liga giants Barcelona will be up against fellow league rivals Atletico Madrid, while Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid hosts last season’s Wembley losing-finalists Borussia Dortmund.
