I Want to Bring Back Some Positivity- Man United Interim Boss Giggs

Manchester United’s interim coach, Ryan Giggs, says he is “proud” of getting the opportunity to manage the club he has known all his life.

The Welshman faced the media in his first press conference as interim boss, following the departure of David Moyes earlier this week.

“I would like to go on record to thank David Moyes for giving me my first chance in coaching,” Giggs, 40, said in his news conference. “It is something I will always remember.

“Secondly, I would like to say how proud I am of managing the club I have supported all my life. It is a proud moment for me and one I will enjoy.

“Just like as a player. I can’t wait for Saturday to come. I know the stadium will be bouncing.”

United begin life post-Moyes’ era with Norwich City’s visit to Old Trafford. Giggs, who was a player coach under the ousted Scot, 50, will be flanked by three of his teammates from the ‘Class of 92’, as Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes join him and Phil Neville in the dugout for the remaining four matches of the disappointing season.

A season of heartaches and frustration it has been for the players, fans and management of the Premier League champions, who currently sits in seventh position in the league table and are at risk of missing out on any of the European competitions next season. The troughs outnumbers the peaks and Moyes’ ten-month stint obviously failed to do much but create apathy between fans and the team- even a rumoured dressing room rift.

United’s revival indeed will now distance itself from the former Everton boss. Many have tried gazing into the stars to see what the future holds. It starts with Saturday’s late afternoon game against relegation threatened Norwich, according to the new man at the helm.

“I am just concentrating on the four games remaining, that is my main focus,” continued Giggs. “After that I have not really thought about it. I have come into the job and my immediate aim is to win Saturday. Best way to do that is to make training as enjoyable as they can.

“It has been a frustrating season for everyone. You win together, you lose together. These four matches I want to bring some positivity back, bring smiles to the faces. I want to see goals and tackles, I want to get the crowd up and want to see the passion.”

The enormity of the task at United is something Giggs has grown with and has never known anything different, but the fact he has not earned his coaching badges comes in-between. He is deeply respected among the playing staff, which has always seen him as a leader. In return, Giggs, who has 13 league winner’s medal in his cabinet and has made over 600 appearances for the 20-time champions, have strengthened his position with the players by sticking up for them- even through the difficulties.

Asked about how the ‘Red Devils’ will play under him, he added: “I want the players to express themselves and enjoy themselves. It will be by my philosophy and Manchester United’s philosophy because I have been here all of my career.

“I want the players to play with passion, speed, tempo, be brave and play with imagination. Also, work hard and most of all enjoy it. If I know I am enjoying a game I can express myself more. That is what I will be doing with the team tomorrow.”

Giggs has made 11 league appearances as a player-coach and does not see his new role stopping him from improving on that.

“I have not done much this week but yes I will be involved as a player,” he said when asked whether he will still be available as a player for the remaining games.
