Rainstorm Destroys 100 Homes, Schools In Plateau

At least 100 houses and shops have been destroyed by rainstorm in Dorowa village of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, following a torrential rainfall that lasted more than four hours. The rainstorm which left hundreds of residents homeless, also destroyed two schools, shops and a police station.

It was learnt that the development forced affected house owners to seek refuge in their relatives and friends’ houses in various parts of the state.

Chairman of Barkin Ladi Local Government, Mr.  Emmauel Loman, who spoke with journalists on Saturday after embarking on an assessment of the area, called on the state government and State Emergency Management Agency to come to the aid of the victims.

He said, “Right now the safety and wellbeing of the displaced people is our priority and that is why we have called on the state government and SEMA to come to our aid”.

Loman also called for donations from kind-hearted individuals in order to assist those affected.
