World Cup 2014: Keshi to Name 23-Man Squad on June 2

Coach Stephen Keshi will announce a final 23-man squad for the 2014 Fifa World Cup on June 2, officials have disclosed.

The African champions trolled out a 30-man provisional squad for this summer’s showpiece in Brazil, confirming several surprises and expectations.

The Super Eagles will face Scotland in a friendly on 28 May at Craven Cottage, before they depart for their training camp in Houston, Texas.

Officials also said the squad departs Abuja for London on May 25 for the friendly encounter with coach Gordon Stratchan side.

Nineteen players from the 2013 African Cup of Nations (Afcon)-winning campaign returned to the squad, while five players, who took part in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) early this year are blooded in the training squad.

Joel Obi, on loan with Parma and Gabriel Reuben, who features for Waasland-Beveren in Belgium, are listed among the midfielders. Ramon Azeez (Almeria FC, Spain), Uche Nwofor (Heerenveen, Holland), Uche Nwofor (Heerenveen, Holland), Peter Odemwingie (Stoke City, England), Obinna Nsofor (Chievo Verona, Italy) and Michael Uchebo (Cercle Brugge, Belgium) are also listed in the squad.

The national team head coach is expected to send seven of the invited players back home ahead of the World Cup warm-up match against Greece and the United States in June.
