Ejike Uzoenyi Links Up With Eagles In Brazil

Replacement winger, Chrisantus Ejike Uzoenyi, is expected to link up with the rest of the Super Eagles squad, which flew out of the USA on Tuesday morning (American time), in Brazil.

Uzoenyi, 22, was named as a replacement for injured Monaco FC defender Elderson Echiejile, on Sunday, after initially missing coach Stephen Keshi’s final cut from his provisional 30-man squad.

The on-loan Enugu Rangers playmaker trained with his team-mates at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium ground of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club on Tuesday morning before catching a flight to Lagos.

Uzoenyi was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in February and featured in Nigeria’s warm-up match against Scotland at Craven Cottage, London, before getting to know about his previous exclusion hours to the kick-off of the goalless draw with Greece.

He reportedly wept inside the coach conveying the team back to their hotel base in Philadelphia, USA.

Uzoenyi signed a three-year contract with South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Mamelodi Sundown after the 2014 CHAN, and was immediately loaned back to Rangers until after the World Cup.
