2015: Ekiti LP Candidate, Bamidele, Considers Joining APC Or PDP

Opeyemi BamideleCandidate of the Labour Party in the June 21 Ekiti Governorship election and member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, has hinted that he might re-join the All Progressives Congress or the Peoples Democratic Party.

He revealed that he had been under intense pressure from both parties ahead of the 2015 general elections.

Bamidele, who came a distant third in the poll, stated this in Ado-Ekiti on Monday while addressing journalists on the outcome of the consultation meeting he held with the leadership of his party to discuss the way forward.

He defected to the LP last year September, following irreconcilable differences with Governor Kayode Fayemi and the endorsement of the governor by a national leader of the party as APC candidate. Fayemi, however, lost the election.

The lawmaker, who disclosed that he would contest for political position in 2015, added that his party had set up an 11-man committee to study the possibility of reaching a good working relationship with either of the political parties.

Bamidele said, “We have become beautiful brides because of the kind of manifesto we presented while campaigning for the June 21 election. So, any party that has the interest of the people at heart will like to work with us on the basis of what we have, which we are ideologically and emotionally attached to”.

Bamidele, who said he was ready to work with anybody in the overriding interest of the people, however, kept mum on what political office he would be vying for and the platform.

He said, “Ayodele Fayose, as governor-elect, has indicated interest to work with me. He had never hidden that fact. He had visited me personally and he has been talking to us.

“Even the APC had also been reaching out, seeking genuine reconciliation for us to come back and rebuild the party. They are not only making rapprochement to me alone, but to every member of the party, even at the local level. So, this goes beyond my own personal opinion. It is a collective thing.

“But I want to state here that we will not compromise because the LP leaders have not come to conclusion to merge with any political party in Ekiti. But whatever step we are going to take will be in overall interest of the populace”.

He also charged members of the party with political ambitions to begin to network with other political parties for the realisation of their dreams.

  1. I think hon bamidele is a kind of politician whose political ideology is based on improving the welfarism of the people. As a young lad who is aspiring to become a good politician, I like him and with his manifetoes I learnt a lot. Believe me, no matter the party you are joining, am ready to vote for you not only because of the person you are but because of what you have promised to offer us and your level of exposure to politics. I just hope you won’t disappoint me and those who believe in you as a man of change…..I tip you for greater things!
