United’s medical team are expected to meet with Jones later on Tuesday to discover the extent of an injury the centre-back picked up in England’s opening Uefa Euro 2016 qualifiers win in Switzerland on Monday night.

The defender limped off in the 77th minute in Basel with what appeared to be a hamstring problem.

United are without a win in four matches this season in all competitions.

Coach Louis van Gaal saw through a transfer deadline day coup, by landing Radamel Falcao from Monaco on a season-long loan. The 63-year-old Dutchman also completed Daley Blind’s move from Ajax.

The duo, alongside Marcos Rojo, who finally received his work permit during the international break, will be available for selection.

Also, there are indications that Luke Shaw, yet to make a competitive appearance for his new club after suffering a hamstring injury in August, is now fit and in contention for his Premier League debut.

Ander Herrera is also keen on his return after just one competitive appearance in the league opening day loss to Swansea at home. The midfielder has been sideline with an ankle problem.

He tweeted: “Training hard and looking forward to this next game at Old Trafford!”
