I really hope this would work, I would do a research at the end of the day to see how successful it was.

The Lagos State Government, has declared today, Wednesday, October 15 as ‘Lagos Horn Free Day’ marking the beginning of efforts to transform Lagos into a Horn Free mega-city.

With noise pollution identified as a major issue in Lagos State based on excessive use of horn by motorists, the state government has adopted a systematic approach towards curbing the unnecessary use of horn in the state.

To drive this message home, the Lagos state government set aside today as the first Lagos Horn Free Day. Other cities have deployed similar strategies and recorded improvements on their road traffic systems, for instance, Koramangala, India adopted a ‘No Horn Mondays’ initiative in association with the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board in Koramangala with attendant success ‎so far recorded.

The launch of this initiative was the 1st Lagos Drivers’ Appreciation Day on October 9th with guests including the commissioner for Transport – Comrade Kayode Opeifa and Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola.

In separate speeches, the governor and his commissioner stated that the aim to reduce noise in Lagos to the barest minimum reinforces Lagos’ position as the Centre of Excellence. The commissioner also noted that the exercise will create a paradigm and gradually, a horn free consciousness would start as he urged transporters, private car owners and Okada riders to support the government in ensuring a reduction in noise pollution through strict adherence to the exercise.
