Banks Shut In Akure Over Robbery Scare

Armed robbers have successfully carried out attacks on banks in Akure, Ondo State capital for years. With the police yet to show capability to protect banks in the city, banks have learnt to close for business anytime intelligence reports or rumours suggest impending robbery attack.

It happened again on Thursday, as banks across Akure hurriedly closed, following rumours of impending robbery across the state. Customers were asked to vacate the banking halls immediately managers of banks in the state got the information.

Vanguard reports that several banks had asked their staff to vacate the bank premises and await situation report on their phones.

While tension rose in the state, the information that some armed robbers had arrived the state capital, among others was found out to be false.

Ondo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Wole Ogodo, confirmed the robbery scare to Vanguard, but gave assurance that detectives had been deployed to the nooks and crannies of the state capital.

He said that police in the state was well equipped to protect it from criminal elements and will always do its best to keep the state safe.

Ogodo therefore urged people of the state to go about their normal activities without fear, as men of the state Police Command were equal to the task of protecting the state.
