A British burglar who raided the wrong house was busted when he changed his mind and went back to return the stolen laptop. New York Daily News report:
Gareth James thought he was getting revenge on someone who owed him $600 for a building job when he broke into a property in Brecon, Wales, reports the BBC.
But the 41-year-old was stunned when he switched the gadget on, and realized it actually belonged to someone else.
He’d hit the wrong home. Feeling bad about the break-in, he decided to take the computer back to its rightful owner.
But he was caught re-entering the property of 23-year-old student, Benjamin Price – and was promptly arrested. James pleaded guilty to burglary at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court on Friday.
He claimed that, even if he’d taken a laptop from the actual man who owed him money, he would only have held onto it until the debt was cleared.
