Zola Named Cagliari Head Coach

Serie A club Cagliari has announced Giafranco Zola as their new manager.

The ex-Chelsea FC striker, 48, succeeds Zdenek Zeman, who was sacked this week following a poor run of form which has seen the club win only two of their first 16 games this season. Cagliari are bottom of the Serie A.

Cagliari said the ex-West Ham boss would take his first training session on Sunday. They face Palermo on January 6.

Zola finished his playing career at the Italian club. He began his managerial career at West Ham in 2008 but was sacked after less than two years at the helm of the Boleyn Ground outfit.

He took over the reins at Watford in 2012 but stepped down midway through his second season. He has not managed any club since leaving Watford.
