Isiaka Remains PDP’s Authentic Gov Flag Bearer In Ogun – Aide

Gboyega IsiakaThe winner of the Peoples Democratic Party governorship primary election for Ogun State, Gboyega Isiaka, has insisted that he remains the authentic candidate of the party for the governorship race in February.

He said this through his campaign organisation’s Director of Media, Mr. Ifekayode Akinbode, in an exclusive interview with The PUNCH.

He said, “Gboyega Isiaka is the governorship flag bearer of the PDP in Ogun State. This has been acknowledged by the President (Goodluck Jonathan) and the National Working Committee (of the PDP).

“Those who wanted to get governorship ticket through the backdoor have realised that truth cannot be twisted”.

Akinbode said the campaign organisation had started preparing its campaign strategy even as he faulted those who said Isiaka was planning to defect to the Social Democratic Party.

The campaign organization’s spokesperson described the belief that a Yewa candidate might not get enough votes to win the governorship race in the state as a blatant lie. He pointed out that the population ratio in the three senatorial districts — Ogun-East, Ogun-West and Ogun-Central — was almost the same.

He said, “Though we have five local governments in Ogun-West where Gboyega Isiaka comes from, that does not mean those with nine local governments have more people than we have.

“The socio-political history, structure and development of Ogun State, since creation in 1976, have not given a fair deal to the people of Ogun-West.

“Political offices, appointments and structures have left the district short-changed.

“Prominent leaders in the state such as late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, late Chief M.K.O. Abiola, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Buruji Kashamu, among others, have openly acknowledged this lopsidedness and unfair treatment of the people of Ogun West; despite the fact that the district constitutes the industrial hub of the state, where much of its revenue is generated, and can boast of quality human and material resources”.
