Olympiakos Sack Spanish Coach Michel

Olympiakos have parted company with Spanish coach Michel Gonzalez, the Greek champions have announced.

The 51-year-old took over the reins at the Karaiskakis Stadium in 2013 and led the club to back-to-back Superleague titles after setting off with a Cup win in his first season. He leaves with Olympiakos sitting behind PAOK Thesaloniki by just one point in the league table.

Olympiakos will face Dnipro in the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League having failed to advance into the round of 16 of the Uefa Champions League, finishing one point behind Group A runners-up Juventus.

A club statement read: “Olympiacos announces the end of its collaboration with coach Michel Gonzalez. The whole Olympiacos family thank coach Michel for his contribution to the club and wish him every success in his career.”

The club will look to record a sixth successive win in all competitions on Wednesday, when they face Fostiras in the Greek Cup.

The former Real Madrid midfielder had had coaching spells with Sevilla, Getafe, Rayo Vallecano and Real B side before traveling to Greece.
