Ikechukwu Uche netted his fifth goal of the La Liga season as Villarreal squandered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at Elche on resumption of domestic matches in Spain.
Luciano Vietto and Ikechukwu Uche scored inside the opening 20 minutes at the Manuel Martinez Valero, but Elche denied coach Marcelino’s side the chance of climbing above Valencia up to fifth place, as top scorer Jonathas de Jesus began the fightback and then provided an assist for Victor Rodriguez’s equaliser after 35 minutes.
Uche capped off a sweeping move in the 18th minute following a rebound of Maruo Gaspar’s shot off goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton, latching on to the loose ball and shooting high into the net.
Uche was denied by a defender late on as every attempt to force a sixth consecutive victory in the Primera Division evaded Villarreal.
Elche remain bottom of the table despite picking up their first point in five matches.
