The All Progressives Congress, APC, has demanded a complete release of the Voter Register for all the states of the federation by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as required by law, Tuesday (today)
It described as unacceptable, any plan to release the register in “piecemeal”.
In a statement in Lagos on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the opposition party said it would not accept anything less than a complete release of the Voter Register under any circumstance.
APC said, “If on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, the date INEC plans to make public the Voter Register that of the South-West and other key states are held back, our party will reject whatever lists comes later.
”Anything short of a complete release of the Voter Register will raise the suspicion that some forces are working to manipulate the register of some states where the opposition has strong followership”.
The party said it was aware of an alleged “penetration of INEC by top agents of the Peoples Democratic Party and the Presidency in order to manipulate the Voter Register of the entire South-western states, as well as Rivers, Kano, Imo and other key states where APC enjoys wide followership”.
It added, “It is common knowledge that a key rigging strategy by the ruling party is the injection of fake voters into the official Voter Register. This is why we are raising this alert, so that Nigerians will understand where we are coming from when we reject the release of any Voter Register that does not meet the provisions of the law”.
