President Goodluck Jonathan today said that Nigeria is winning the war against insurgency by Boko Haram in the north east. But he noted that the war against Boko Haram will not be won within six weeks. Speaking during the Presidential Media Chat, going on at the moment, Jonathan said almost all the towns taken by the Islamist sect has been recaptured.
“There is no hiding place for the Boko Haram again,” he said during the chat. According to him, “only Madagali is remaining” under Boko Haram rule in Adamawa State. In Yobe, the president said “two local governments are affected and in the next couple of weeks we will take them over .”
In Borno however, he said that about 10 – 12 out of the 27 local governments in the state, are still under Boko Haram rule.
The president, while promising that Nigeria is near the end of insurgency also promised to bring back the Chibok girls who were abducted from their schools on April 14, 2014. He said the coalition with neighbours in fighting Boko Haram is making brighter, the hope of bringing back the girls soon.
“Now that we are working with Chad and Cameroon, the story of the Chibok Girls will get better,” he said, without giving a time frame for fear of being quoted.
Lamenting the contribution of some politicians to insecurity in the country, Jonathan noted that Boko Haram is not the only thing Nigerians should be worried about. “The issue of security is beyond Boko Haram. Politicians are instigating some young people to act in ways not expected,” he said.
