Udoh Clinches Enyimba’s 1st Win against Bayelsa Utd

Mfon Udoh opened his goal-scoring account for the season on Sunday as Enyimba International FC earned their first win of the three-week-old Glo Premier League season at home to Bayelsa United.

Udoh , who scored 23 goals last term to become the all-time leading scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), placed the Peoples Elephants ahead five minutes after the restart, tapping in Daniel Etor’s corner.

The ex-Akwa United frontman could have ended the match with a brace had his first-half strike not being chalked off for offside.

Enyimba’s Chinonso Okwonkwo headed over the bar in the 35th minute and goalkeeper Chijioke Ejiogu was on hand to stop Anthony Abawula’s goal-bound shot from 40 yards as the visitors sought for an equaliser.

Etor’s 25 yards drive was deflected off for a corner in the 39th minute and Bernard Okorowanta failed to restore parity for the visitors after some defensive mishap on 79 minutes.

The Restoration Boys ended the game with ten men, after striker Musa Najere received his marching order for a second bookable offence 8 minutes from time.

The win takes the last season’s runners-up tally to five having drawn their opening two matches.
