Falcons Rout Mali to Reach All-Africa Games

A brace each by Assisat Oshoala, Francisca Ordega and Desire Oparanozie helped the Nigeria senior women’s national team beat Mali 8-0, through to the Football Tournament of the 2015 All-Africa Games.

The Super Falcons came into Friday’s encounter at the National Stadium Abuja on the back of a 1-1 draw in Bamako, but advance into the Women’s Football Tournament of the All-Africa Games courtesy of a 9-1 aggregate victory.

France-based Oparanozie placed the hosts in the lead in the third minute and Ordega doubled the tally a quarter of an hour later.

Liverpool Ladies stalwart Oshoala, having spurned an earlier attempt to increase scores, ensured Nigeria was coasting to victory with a simple tap-in six minutes after the half-hour mark from an Oparanozie’s assist.

The former Rivers Angels markswoman turned provider for Oparanozie a minute to half-time as the Falcons went into the interval with a 4-0 lead.

Oshoala and Ordega completed their braces within seventeen minutes of the restart, before skipper Evelyn Nwabuoku and substitute Esther Sunday rounded off an emphatic victory.
