Don’t Slash Players’s Salary, LMC Urges Clubs’s Managements

The League Management Company (LMC) has advised clubs to adhere by the terms of contract entered into with players.

This is on the backdrop of several reports suggesting clubs are threatening to sack players and technical crews, or issuing deadlines for salary deduction.

Chairman of the Nigerian league body, Mallam Shehu Dikko, in reaction, has urged the managements of the clubs allegedly involved in what he has termed “violation of the minimum wage condition” to find better methods of motivating players.

“I urge clubs to find better creative ways to motivate their employees. We should not allow the impression that different labour laws apply to football clubs to hold,” Dikko is quoted as saying by thenff.com.

The LMC has always stressed that players’s welfare remains sacrosanct to the growth of football in the country and had made it a statutory requirements for clubs to provide documents certifying their payment of the accredited N150,000 minimum wage.

Citing relevant sections of the Nigeria Professional Football League Rules and Framework, Mallam Dikko cautioned: “Whereas these reports are unconfirmed, they are disconcerting. The League Rules- Article B9.45 require that terms of contracts shall be strictly adhered to. Deducting salaries of players or coaches on account of poor performance is contrary to the terms of contract and a violation we will certainly not entertain.
