Relegated Milwall Release Shittu, 17 Others

Milwall boss Neil Harris has released Nigerian defender Danny Shittu following the club’s relegation from the Championship.

Shittu initially joined Milwall in October 2010 but left in January 2011 after seeing out his three-month deal.

He returned to The Den in 2012 following a difficult stint with Queens Park Rangers and went on to be named player of the year at the end of the 2012-13 season.

Milwall joined Wigan Athletic and Blackpool on the descent to the Football League at the end of the just concluded second tier campaign, after finishing third from bottom.

Harris, 37, who was appointed manager on a permanent basis 24 hours after the side’s relegation, has deemed Shittu and long-serving defender Alan Dune, amongst others, as surplus to requirements.

Carlos Edwards, Ricardo Fuller, Martyn Woolford and Nicky Bailey are also among the players heading for the exit. Matthew Briggs, Richard Chaplow, Magaye Gueye, Justin Hoyte, Stefan Maierhofer and Angel Martinez have all made their last appearances for the club, so also Youngsters Dylan Casey, Sofiane El-Bekri, Denzel Gerrar, Jake Goodman, Josh Siafa and Callum Webb.
