We’ll Tax Rich People To Help The Poor – Gov. Ganduje

Abdullahi GandujeGovernor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State yesterday said he would impose tax on the rich in the state in order to improve the standard of living of the poor.

Speaking at Kano Government House in his maiden interview with journalists, Ganduje said he would embark on aggressive taxes in order to source for funds to cushion the effect of the financial meltdown in the country.

He added that a committee would be constituted to review taxes and capture areas that are left out in taxation to stabilise the funding of projects.

“Because of the financial situation, I will put rigorous efforts to enhance our Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). We are going to tax the rich in order to improve the quality of lives of the poor in Kano”, he said.

The governor revealed that as part of measures to cut down on the cost of governance, he would reduce the number of ministries currently in existence.

“I would like to have a very strong cabinet but I will cut down our ministries. I will also establish the office of due process for the screening of contracts and what have you. An agency on anti-corruption will also be established”, he said.

Gov. Ganduje promised to establish an ultra-modern training centre to enhance the performance level of civil servants in the state.
