The Osun State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party has rejected the composition of the committee set up by the state House of Assembly to investigate the petition filed by Justice Folahanmi Oloyede against Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
The constitution of the committee followed a formal response to the petition by Mr. Aregbesola as requested by the House of Assembly.
Justice Oloyede had alleged in her petition that the governor’s financial recklessness had plunged the state into a financial mess and called on the House of Assembly to begin the process of impeaching the governor based on her allegations.
Faulting the composition of the committee on Thursday, the spokesperson for the PDP in the state, Diran Odeyemi, said it did not include any member of the opposition party.
“The lawmakers were not clever enough by deliberately leaving out members of the opposition in the house out of the committee”, Mr. Diran said.
He alleged that the APC dominated house was acting the script prepared by Mr. Aregbesola and the lawmakers were in the second stage of their plans.
He said, “Osun APC lawmakers are now at the second stage of their script. The first stage was to write Aregbesola to defend himself, the second stage would be to invite him and the petitioner.
“At the third stage, Aregbesola will be called to come and play to the gallery in defence. They will then rubbish the petition and recommend the petitioner for disciplinary action and removal as judge”.
The PDP spokesman slammed the lawmakers for lacking the courage to deal with the issues raised by the petitioner, adding that they have further exposed themselves as puppets and mere rubber stamps in the hands of the governor with the composition of the probe committee.
“While we implore APC lawmakers to have it at the back of their minds that they will forever remain in the wrong side of history for helping the enemy of Osun people plot way out of trap he has arrogantly walked into, PDP also reminds the lawmakers that the same petition they are about to gloss over is with EFCC, ICPC, Transparency International and other national and international agencies, who are expecting thorough investigation from the lawmakers”, he said.
