The All Progressives Congress, Kwara State chapter, has frowned at the invitation of the wife of Senate President, Mrs. Toyin Saraki by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), describing it as shocking.
The party’s position was made known at the end of its state executive council meeting on Friday.
Addressing newsmen after the meeting, the Kwara APC chairman, Hon. Ishola Balogun-Fulani, said the party was alarmed that five years after the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki left office as Governor of Kwara State, his wife was just being invited by the anti-graft commission.
The EFCC reportedly asked Mrs. Saraki to make herself available on July 28 to provide answers on some questionable financial inflows into the accounts of some companies in which she has interest. She has since agreed to honouring the invitation.

But Mr. Balogun-Fulani noted that the invitation was suspicious and politically motivated, adding that while the party is not averse to the EFCC’s conduct of its activities, the commission must “thread softly”.

He reiterated that the EFCC was only out to smear the name of the Senate President in the name of inviting his wife.

“We all know that the Senate President emerged by the grace of Allah and some people are not happy with his emergence. We view the invitation of Mrs. Toyin Saraki as a way of throwing mud to the Senate President and the Senate in particular.

“It is a political way of discrediting the person of Senator Saraki. Why is EFCC doing this now if not to smear the name of Saraki? We are not saying that the EFCC should not do its work but they should be mindful of where and how. They should not politicize their work”, he maintained.
The APC chairman said women of Kwara State had wanted to file out in protest against Mrs. Saraki’s invitation but the party had to calm them down.
He, therefore, appealed to the EFCC to thread softly so as not to ignite political turmoil in the State, the North-Central and Country at large.
“EFCC should not allow itself to be used by political gladiators. They should do their work with caution”, Balogun-Fulani said.
Also speaking, the state APC woman leader, Hajia Sarat Adebayo, said the former Kwara first lady has been of great assistance to humanity and the downtrodden especially orphans and the vulnerable children (OVC), saying the timing of the invitation is wrong.
