Yobe Suicide Bomb Attack: IGP Salutes Officers’ Gallantry, Awards Post-humous Promotions To Three Deceased Policemen

Solomon-AraseThe Inspector General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase on Tuesday hailed the courage and gallantry displayed by officers of the Yobe State Police Command in the fight against insurgency in the Northeast state.
The police boss said he was highly pleased that despite the imminent challenges, officers of the police command have continued to exhibit a high sense of patriotism and dedication to duty.
He was reacting to the death of three police officers, who were killed in the line of duty on Monday when a suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber detonated a bomb at a police check point near Damaturu, Yobe State.
Describing the incident as “unfortunate”, Mr. Arase noted that but for the indomitable spirit, sacrifice and professionalism of the deceased officers, the terrorists would have detonated the explosives in a “high profile” target.
According to a statement today by the Force Public Relations Officer, CP Emmanuel Ojuwku, the IG approved the post-humous promotion of the deceased officers to further “consolidate the commendation”.
The force spokesman said Mr. Arase further directed the Medical Department to foot the medical expenses of the officer injured in the blast.
“In addition, four children each of the deceased officers will be offered scholarship up to secondary school level while the families will be afforded priority in the budding Police Housing Scheme”, the statement read.
It further said “similar gesture will be extended to other officers who paid the supreme sacrifice in the course of fighting insurgency”.
