El-Rufai Too Launches Campaign To Keep Kaduna Clean

Nasir El-RufaiGovernor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State on Saturday inaugurated ‘Operation Keep Kaduna Clean’ campaign with a pledge that government will build landfills and suitable waste transfer stations in the three zones of the state.
Speaking at the inauguration of the campaign at Badarawa Primary School, Kaduna, where heaps of waste were dumped beside the school, el-Rufai noted that the landfills and waste transfer stations would be constructed in Kaduna, Zaria and Kafanchan.
The governor said his administration would not allow urban centres in the state to become sprawling slums that housed rubbish and effluence, stressing that towns and cities under the All Progressives Congress in the state cannot be permitted to be defaced by waste.
This, he added, was part of the party’s manifestos that the various streets in the state were kept clean and safe for human habitation.
El-Rufai added, “As we promised in the APC Kaduna Restoration Programme, our party’s manifesto in charge of planning, environmental and urban management, promises to collaborate with local governments and municipalities.
“This is to ensure that our streets are cleaned; that solid and liquid waste are collected, processed and disposed of in an environmentally-sustainable manner.
“The state government will also construct landfills and suitable waste transfer stations in our three major urban centres in Kaduna, Zaria and Kafanchan, to process and dispose of solid waste sustainably. The local governments will do the same for the towns and villages within their jurisdiction.
“We will also embark on the beautification of our neighbourhoods. Government will recover public land to ensure that green areas, parks and recreational facilities are provided in all towns and villages in the state”.
