Enyimba Top Glo NPFL as IfeanyiUbah & Sunshine Stars Share Spoils

Enyimba are back on top of the Glo Premier League standings after their 2-1 win at home to Lobi Stars in a Match Day 22 encounter on Sunday.

The six-time Glo Premier League champions now have 41 points, a point ahead of Sunshine Stars who failed to maintain momentum following their goalless draw with FC IfeanyiUbah in a postponed fixture on Monday.

Ifeanyi George broke the deadlock in the 31st minute for hosts Enyimba and Ifeanyi Anaemena doubled the Peoples Elephants’ lead from a Peter Onyekachi flick of Kamal Sikiru cross five minutes from the break.

Tony Okpotu pulled a goal back for Lobi from the penalty spot after goalkeeper Femi Thomas hacked down Obinna Arinze in the penalty area on the stroke of full time.

Kingsley Sokari returned for Enyimba in Sunday’s win, coming on for Razak Aliyu in the 64th minute after his protracted move to Tunisian club Esperance collapsed.

Sunshine Stars forced Ifeanyi Ubah to a goalless draw at the Rojenny Stadium in an encounter that was moved on to Monday on account of heavy rainfall.

Ifeanyi Ubah’s Chukwudi Stephens came close to scoring in the 10th minute, but dallied on the ball after racing through on goal, only for visiting goalkeeper Ezenwa Ikechukwu to block his effort for an offside.

Austin Ekpoma also failed to consolidate for early pressure by the Nnewi- based side on 23 minutes, when he headed over unmarked from a Chibuzor Okonkwo cross.

The hosts were then awarded a spot-kick five minutes later after Jolly Osas was impeded in the penalty area, but goalkeeper Ezenwa saved Okonkwo’s penalty.

Sunshine had rarely threatened before another Okonkwo effort in the 37th minute was cleared off the line by Mohammed Chaona, as Ifeanyi Ubah upped the antics against their guests.

Light rainfall returned at the Rojenny Stadium after the hour mark but the match continued, with Sunshine attempting to assert some dominance on the proceedings.

Tunde Adeniji however failed to convert from a deadball in the 77th minute and then flashed his header wide five minutes from time.

Okereke Maduabuchi’s shot in injury time was kept out by the impressive Ezenwa as both sides shared the spoils in Oba.

Ifeanyi Ubah’s Solomon Enudi came on as a substitute against his former employers on 79 minutes.

The coach Daniel Amokachi side are 13th on the log with 29 points from a possible 66.
