Valentin Stocker needed just six minutes to register the opener in front of 56, 376 crowd at the Berlin Olympiastadion, but Ujah restored parity midway through the second half to help Bremen register their first point of the new German League campaign.

Bremen could have nicked it in the closing ten minutes but were twice caught out by the woodwork.

A volleyed effort by Hertha’s Hegeler was deflected on to the path of Stocker, who smashed into the net from close range early on.

Ujah needed a second asking to poke into the hosts’ net from close range after leaping high to connect with Ulisses Garcia’s cross in the 26th minute.

Hertha got off to a better start in either half but Ujah’s strike proved the morale booster for Bremen.
