The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption, Professor Itse Sagay, SAN earlier in the week urged corrupt Nigerians to come forward and confess their corrupt deeds so that their case will be treated with leniency. This did not seem to go down well with Nigerians who think no corrupt Nigerian will ever come out on their own and confess giving that institutions are not in place to ensure they do. INFORMATION NIGERIA has used its platform to gather these reactions.
Rockson Udoh Wilson did not just disagree; he attacked Buhari calling him corrupt too. He said ‘As president who is also corrupt and as a looter of Nigeria petroleum trust fund, Buhari must lead the way to confess. Then as the grandfather of Nigeria corruption, OBJ and IBB should follow, with Tinubu, Amaechi, Fashola, Oshiomhole and all the members of APC. Then Nigeria will be cleansed’. Alfred A Osobe said ‘Sagay needs more than kids gloves to deal with looters. How is he going to make corrupt people to confess?’
Oluwasegun Ojemuyiwa finds the call to corrupt people to confess unbelievable as he said ‘I can’t believe Sagay said that. Is this how Buhari”s experts will bail Nigeria out? Is Nigeria turning into a huge joke again? I’m really alarmed’. Tayo Fabuluje decided to give a word of advice as he said ‘is this how to fight corruption? Nigeria has no anti-corruption institution in place. Establish anti – corruption system called Social Technology Institution and it will pinpoint every corrupt individual all the way back to 1914, the year of amalgamation. It will expose looters publicly. These anti – corruption committee are not serious… do you have to take up job you know nothing about?’
Olawale Akinpade infused a little bit of comedy with his comment where he said ‘I wonder how Basketmouth made a lot of money, with the number of competition in his business? There are a lot of comedians in Nigeria. Example is this man. Who will come out?? Oga if u want to probe please probe, if u want to collect bribe there’s another way but definitely not this. No play Nollywood for us joo’. Oluwagbenga Adeyemi opined that ‘they can’t come out by themselves to confess on corruption matter. But if you know all the peoples go and handcuff them’. Osaigbovo Morris was quite sarcastic saying ‘I am corrupt please where is the venue for the confession?’
What Samson Afuye had to say about the call for confession is that its ‘a clueless way of dealing with sensitive-weighty issue’.
What PMB is trying to do is very right, we must all pray for him to achieve his deservable goals.
But no mercy to be shown to any currupt person inshaAllah.
