Police are looking for a teen they say assaulted a clerk at Fairburn United Methodist church Thursday morning.

According to a policeĀ release, a 52-year-old woman was alone with an infant when a teen between 15 to 18 years oldĀ knocked on the door and asked to use the phone to allegedly call his mother. She let him in and after he finished the call, he repeatedly struck her with a baseball bat while demanding car keys.

The suspect did not obtain any keys or ā€œitems of valueā€ before leaving the scene on foot. Emergency responders took theĀ victim to the hospital where she is listedĀ in stable condition.Ā The child was not injured.Ā Dexter Reid walks by the church three times a week on his way to work and says heā€™s never seen trouble in this part of town.

ā€œNot on this side,ā€ Reid said. ā€œThe police station is real close right here.ā€Ā Sgt. Anthony Bazydlo with the Fairburn Police Department said the suspectā€™s age made the attack even more surprising.Ā ā€œYou have a young subject who went to violence so quickly against a victim that was not fighting back,ā€ Bazydlo said.
