Police are looking for a teen they say assaulted a clerk at Fairburn United Methodist church Thursday morning.
According to a police release, a 52-year-old woman was alone with an infant when a teen between 15 to 18 years old knocked on the door and asked to use the phone to allegedly call his mother. She let him in and after he finished the call, he repeatedly struck her with a baseball bat while demanding car keys.
The suspect did not obtain any keys or “items of value” before leaving the scene on foot. Emergency responders took the victim to the hospital where she is listed in stable condition. The child was not injured. Dexter Reid walks by the church three times a week on his way to work and says he’s never seen trouble in this part of town.
“Not on this side,” Reid said. “The police station is real close right here.” Sgt. Anthony Bazydlo with the Fairburn Police Department said the suspect’s age made the attack even more surprising. “You have a young subject who went to violence so quickly against a victim that was not fighting back,” Bazydlo said.
