The acting National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has dismissed the claim by Peoples Democratic Party governors that the APC had finalized plans to clone the permanent voter’s cards and infiltrate the security agencies using party agents in fake security uniforms in order to win this Saturday’s governorship election in Bayelsa State.
The acting APC spokesperson, who denied the allegations in an interview with Daily Trust on Wednesday, said President Muhammadu Buhari would never allow the militarization of the poll because “he is a lover of democracy and a democrat”.
The governors under the aegis of PDP Governors’ Forum, PDPGF, in a statement by its Director General, Earl Osaro Onaiwu in Abuja yesterday, alleged that the APC had brought in some Indians, numbering five, and lodged them in a hotel owned by one of the party’s chieftain in Port Harcourt, where the card cloning process was ongoing.
“To achieve this dangerous plan, the APC brought in five Indians, all IT experts, to help them clone PVCs for the Bayelsa governorship election. We are raising this alarm so as to alert Nigerians, the INEC and the international community on the machinations of the APC against democracy and the right of the people to freely elect those that should govern them”, the PDP Governors Forum had claimed.
Reacting to the allegation, Mr. Frank said, “The APC, as you know, has been a responsible party right from day one. That is why Nigerians have confidence in the party. I can tell you clearly that there is no way the APC will accept any form of rigging. Based on our capacity and based on the integrity of members of the APC, we are too responsible to rig any election in Nigeria.
“At any time, we will win based on our popularity. The president we have today does not tolerate any form of injustice or any form of intimidation from any sector.
“So, I can tell you without fear or favour that President Buhari will not allow the party, any member of the APC or the military to be used in this election because he is a true democrat. He is a lover of democracy.
“So, we can tell you clearly that what the PDP governors are saying are some of their aims. These are some of the things they were doing when they were the ruling party and when they were in power. So, they are trying to introduce that psychology on the Nigerian people. The APC is working hard and doing everything to win the election in Bayelsa, not by rigging”.
