The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, PDPGF, has condemned Wednesday’s invasion of the national secretariat of the party in Abuja by Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, an aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Gulak, accompanied by his supporters, stormed the opposition party’s headquarters, where he declared himself as the National Chairman of PDP.
The former Special Adviser to Jonathan on Political Matters, said Prince Uche Secondus had ceased to be acting national chairman of the party following a court ruling.
However, the PDPGF in a Communique issued after its meeting held late on Wednesday in Abuja and signed by the Director General of the forum, Earl Osaro, described Gulak’s action as “regrettable and condemnable”.
The governors, who took cognizance of the judgment by the court in Abuja, which ordered the acting chairman to vacate office for any other person from the North-East zone of Nigeria to take over, said “Our party constitution has enough provisions for that and the necessary process has been put in motion”.
The forum stated that the appropriate organs of the party would meet soonest to elect a national chairman of the party from the appropriate zone.
Meanwhile, the forum congratulated the governors of Rivers and Ebonyi states, Nyesom Wike and Dave Umahi respectively on the affirmation of their electoral victories by the Supreme Court yesterday.
