Buhari Cancels Highly Publicized Visit To Ogoni Land

PMBThe highly publicized visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Rivers State to flag off the clean-up of Ogoni land and other communities in Niger Delta, recommended by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), has been canceled.
The president was scheduled to flag off the clean up exercise in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State on Thursday but a last minute change of plan resulted in the visit been shelved.
According to unofficial sources, President Buhari has instead asked Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to represent him at the official clean-up exercise of Ogoni land, which has suffered years of environmental degradation and devastation as a result of oil spill by companies operating in the area.
Our correspondent reports that this is the third time in less than two weeks that the president will cancel high profile visit to states in the last minute after he pulled the plug on his visit to Lagos State last week Monday and Cross River State last Friday.
