One of Nigeria’s most respected novelists, Captain Elechi Amadi has passed on at the age of 82. A member of his family confirmed that the revered author passed on at a hospital in Port Harcourt on Wednesday night.

Elechi Amadi is the author of The Road to Ibadan, The Slave , Estrangement and the Woman of Calabar. Captain Amadi attended Government college , Umuahia and went on to the University college, Ibadan where he studied Physics and Mathematics. He served in the 3rd Marine Commandos of the Nigerian Army and was the first Commissioner for Education in the old Rivers state and also served as Commissioner for Lands and Housing
